which brings you short news and highligts, this time covering mainly
the period of April - June 2012. You will find here interesting info from Czech Healthy
Cities and their association.

Information and updates

Strategic planning and management in municipalities formed the subject of HCCZ seminar

On May 10, 2012 a HCCZ Thematic Section dedicated to the issue of strategic planning and management took place at Novotneho Lavka in Prague. The event was attended by 80 persons, primarily by representatives of municipalities, but also of companies and organisations that deal with the issue actively. The attendants of the event familiarised with approved methods and experience that can be employed in preparation or update of development strategies in the cities, municipalities or regions.

How to find out if a city is sustainable? The methodology has been created

In March 2012, after two-year work of experts from universities and other specialist workplaces in the Czech Republic as well as that of practitioners from the cities, the "Methodology for evaluation of Local Agenda category A" has been approved. In the CZ, LA21 has a chart of quality of the participating municipalities and regions - from the "applicants" to categories "D", "C", "B" ending with the highest category "A". It is for this very last category that precise guidelines and procedures of how to measure it were missing. For this reason, the Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic in collaboration with a number of university experts and other representatives of specialised workplaces tested the proposed Methodology in practice.

Within the General Assembly of HCCZ there was a national workshop dedicated to formulation of strategies

On April 24 2012, the Regional Office of Vysocina Region in Jihlava hosted the spring meeting of HCCZ General Assembly that discussed important topics related to the Healthy City Project and Local Agenda 21. 6 new HCCZ members have been introduced as well as the results of association's work on the national and international levels. HCCZ General Assembly meeting was preceded by special workshop on the subject of strategic planning, attended by more than 50 representatives of the HCCZ member municipalities and regions.

Healthy Cities hosted „Fair Breakfasts“, supporting the principle of fair trade

"Fair Breakfast" that took place on May 12 in a number of locations in the Czech Republic promotes the fair trade principle, i.e. purchasing of products in particular from the Third World countries for prices fair to their manufacturers. People attending fair breakfasts showed their support to responsible consumption, dignified work and observation of human rights.

Annual Healthy Cities Conference in St. Petersburg

Over 300 mayors and municipal health leaders met in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation on 14–16 June 2012 for the Annual Business and Technical Conference of the WHO European Healthy Cities Network and Network of European National Healthy Cities Networks. At the Conference, participants shared solutions for creating urban environments that nurture health and well-being throughout life.
